Do you know Eliza Doolittle?

My favorite women's magazine this week tells me that a young British singer is really worth a visit. His name: Eliza Doolittle. My heart missed a beat (*), but in good surfer, 'Immediately I Her google', and - what a surprise - the name of this little cheeky spans the first five pages Search!

What's so shocking? What's the big deal ?

Well, the REAL Eliza Doolittle, she is not AT ALL!

Eliza Doolittle is the heroine of Bernard Shaw in his play 'Pygmalion ' published in 1916 and taken into a musical under the title of 'My Fair Lady ' by AJ Lerner in 1958.
Eliza is a little flower girl in cockney accent well defined: it aspires no ' h' and said ' rain' as' Rhine '; to the output of an evening at the theater, Mr. Higgins, professor of phonetics and linguistics, the gamble to move Eliza Doolittle for a duchess after 6 months of lessons in pronunciation ...

B. Shaw's play is a little hard to read (minimum level: B2 + ) However, the script of 'My Fair Lady' is very accessible (minimum level: B1/B1 +) and you will spend a great time.

good time before or after reading: Sink into your sofa for an afternoon of autumn and enjoy the DVD of the musical: the divine Audrey Hepburn ( Who else? ) portrays a Eliza Doolittle remember, and Rex Harrison's Professor Higgins a a cynical glare. The songs are "just great ', they will not soon forget.
